JOSE SARAMAGO VISITS QUITO

The renowned Literature Nobel Prize winner José Saramago will visit our capital in mid
February to honor the new designation of Quito as "Iberoamerican Capital of Culture 2004".
Saramago will receive a "Guayasamín-UNESCO" award and will be the main figure at the "Pablo Neruda"meeting of intellectuals on the topic "Culture of Peace". These events will take place at "La Capilla del Hombre" (see page XXX).

"QUITO, OTRA MIRADA" (Quito, another sight) PHOTO EXHIBIT

Open until February 8th at the City Museum.
The photo exhibit "Quito, otra Mirada" by Sebastián Crespo is an interpretation of the contemporary city, through a visual fragmentation and unusual perspectives of the architectonic structures of Quito.
As part of this exhibit, a project called "Enfocate" (FOCUS) has been incorporated. The project consists of a closed cabin, in which the visitors can take digital photographs of fragments of their bodies to build a portrait.
With this material, the photographer Sebastían Crespo will prepare a series of works that will be exhibited together with his photographs of fragments of the city.
The project already has 1.500 images of various postures and attitudes of national and international visitors.
