A “chiva” is an open bus with live music, typical of the Ecuadorian coast. The aquatic chiva “Huancavilca” (the name comes from a pre-Incan culture that inhabited the area) services every Friday and Saturday. It leaves from the “Club Naval” at the Malecon 2000.

Santay Island
You can see the Island of Santay from the Malecón in Guayaquil. To visit you take a boat from Simón Bolivar jetty where you can contact a travel advisor. The ride takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Entrance fee ($5,50 children and $7 adults) includes a tour guide. Departing Hours: Tuesday thru Sunday 11h00. Recommendations: Wear light clothes, insect repellent, sunscreen. Take bottled water. Inexpensive rubber boot rental is available at the Island. The island floods every 15 days, therefore to visit we recommend contacting the tide advisors (at the Malecón) and not to travel in tidal water.
