On October 9th, Guayaquil celebrates its independence, which took place in the year 1820. The “Fiestas Octubrinas”, as these celebrations are called locally, include parades, folkloric festivals, and several cultural activities. October 9th is a national holiday. keeping the revolutionary spirit and cheerfulness that characterizes the city’s people. A number of events are offered throughout the city to celebrate this date. |

Santay Island
A 2.5-hour boat ride the from Simón Bolivar jetty.
Recommendations: Wear light clothes, insect repellent, sunscreen. Take bottled water. Inexpensive rubber boot rental is available at the Island. The island floods every 15 days, therefore to visit we recommend contacting the tide advisors (at the Malecón) and not to travel in tidal water. For more info contact: Discovery 230 4831.
