| Interview to the people of Guayaquil |
Interview to Mr. Joseph Garzozi,
Tourism Director of the Guayaquil Municipality
1.
What is Guayaquil doing to become a premium tourist destination?
Based on the privileged natural environment
of Guayaquil, the Mayor of the city has taken the political
decision to transform the city into a premium tourist destination.
Guayaquil lies next to the Guayas River, surrounded by estuaries,
the ocean and tropical forests. Moreover, the city holds architectonic
treasures and wonderful weather all year long.
2. Which are the main attractions for international
tourists?
Some of the main attractions are: Historic
Park, Malecon 2000, Cerro Santa Ana, as well as the churches
and parks downtown. We have also marked 13 important sites
for eco tourism and bird watching in the city and its surroundings.
There are great shopping centers, and the city has an exhilarating
nightlife.
3. What is the FITE (International
Tourism Trade Fair of Ecuador)?
FITE is a marketing tool that brings together
the national and international tourist offer for negotiations.
It takes place in Guayaquil every year. The idea is not only
to sell Ecuador’s tourist attractions, but all of South
America. This year we hosted 260 pavillions, 100 of which
came from 20 different countries. We offer pre and post tours
for buyers to visit Quito and the Northern Sierra, the Galapagos
Islands, the “Ruta del Sol” and/or Cuenca and
its surroundings. Guayaquil is an excellent place for fairs
and conventions all year round: wonderful climate and excellent
facilities.
4. What are your plans for the future?
Guayaquil is a “light” destination
where visitors need only “light” luggage with
casual clothing, where the weather is mild and the tourist
sites are easy to reach and enjoy. This positions our city
as a premium tourist destination, also being the entry gate
for the Galapagos Islands and the Andes.
5. What events have been organized
for the city’s October Festivities?
This month, cultural events are taking place
all around the city, and the public plazas hold civic and
military parades.
