| Kapawi Ecolodge and Reserve |
Deep in the nearly two millions acres of the Achuar people’s territory, Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve is an award winning eco-lodge noted for its comfort and quality of service, its ecological design and sensitivity, and its abundance of wildlife and rich biodiversity. Located in the territorial lands of an indigenous nation (6,000 people in 64 communities) is still living in intimate harmony with nature as they have for generations. The ecolodge is built entirely using ACHUAR architecture. A wooden boardwa lk meanders its way from the river, through the jungle, to the lodge itself and on out over the lagoon, providing an ideal location for early morning bird watching and sipping freshly brewed coffee. The lodge includes 19 guest rooms, each with private bath, and two centrally located communal structures – a large dining room and separate lounge/library – which serve as the social and meeting center. Discover the wonders of the Ecuadorian Amazon all year round!
Community-based Tourism
Experience Ecuador from within
This section is a contribution of the Ministry of Tourism to the development of community-based tourism
Community-based tourism offers the opportunity to experience a full intercultural relationship while contributing to community development and the conservation of natural resources and cultural traditions. The Ministry of Tourism has committed to the development of this kind of tourism which should provide a sound development tool for communities and allow them to improve their living conditions.
Communities become hosts and display their traditions, cultural expressions, art, gastronomy and natural environment. Many are open to share their local festivities, handcrafting, and their knowledge of medical plants, among other cultural traditions. Moreover, they have developed additional activities for visitors to enjoy, such as hikes, and bird watching. Step off the beaten path and allow the native communities to be your hosts!
